Registrations start on UMIS introduced by TNeGA. University Management Information System (UMIS) is centralised MIS to manage data of all higher education institutions in Tamil Nadu. It is governed and managed by Tamil Nadu E-Governance Agency. The main aim of UIMS is to integrate all the Information Management Portals related to graduation and Port Graduation courses. Some portals that integrate with UMIS are EMIS (Education Management Information system), TNSSP (Tamil Nadu State Scholarship Portal). It will provide a single window platform for all institutions under DoTE, DoCE, DME, DPH, Law, TNAU etc. This common portal will help completeness of applications in other platforms like scholarship portals, etc. The portal would also enable easy accessible dashboard to the different stakeholders on number of students enrolled, the type of courses offered, the academic performance of students, etc.

To register on UMIS the students first need a EMIS or UMIS ID that is provided to them by their institutions. The institutions first register themselves and fill all the information that is important. Later they manually add students by entering their details to create their log in details. Then these credentials are shared with students who will then login on UMIS portal.

What is UMIS?

University Management Information System [UMIS] is a common portal which stores the information of students pursuing higher education. This would help in better management of educational resources and provide the state government with better insight into the educational sector. UMIS also serve as a comprehensive platform that integrates data, automates processes, and provides analytical capabilities to support the diverse needs of a higher education department. The genuineness of student data should be validated at the initial stage through interfaces like EMIS, NPCI, Aadhaar, eSevai, etc. UMIS will act as a Decision Support System and help the state and Education department administrators and management to make data-driven decisions through reports, analytics, and dashboards, etc.

There are 5 modules in TN UMIS Portal which are as follows:

Institution Information	All the information about a particular college or university is available on the portal. Those institutes who register themselves need to provide the details like their address, affiliation, ratings, academic courses etc.
Course Information	Institutes themselves add information about al the courses that they provide in detail. Later they can also update this information by simply clicking on ‘add course’ and add all the new courses they keep introducing.
Student Information	It is a very basic module which keeps information about the students who are there in an institution. It includes their roll numbers, address, contact, Date of birth etc.
Student Data Validation	This data is verified and validated based on the external official information of the students.

Steps to register on UMIS Portal for institutions

1. Access official website of UMIS Portal through umis2.xenovex.com.
2. Click on ‘Log in’.
3. Enter institute information.
4. Fill information of students in the Student Information module by selecting option in Dashboard.
5. Update their Course Information List. Click on Add course to add any new course introduced.
6. Click on ‘student data validation’. Enter information about students and generate their credentials for registration on UMIS Portal.
7. Click on ‘student information’ to enter information about the students like their academic details, marks, emid etc.

1. Go to official website of UMIS i.e umis.tn.gov.in
2. Click on ‘Log in’.
3. Enter your Username and Password that you receive from your department.
4. Enter Captcha.
5. Click on ‘log in’.
6. You can update your password once you log in for first time.
7. Click on various options available on Student Dashboard on UMIS to select various features.
