The National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP-NSPE), also known as the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, was introduced as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme on August 15, 1995, initially in 2,408 blocks across the nation, to improve child enrollment, retention, attendance, and nutritional levels at the same time. The program is available to all students enrolled in elementary and upper primary schools and centers supported by SSA (now Samagra Shiksha) in all areas of the nation from 2008–09, or as of April 1, 2008. The 2004–05 fiscal year, the State of Assam launched the Mid-Day Meal Scheme. In September, the program’s name was modified to Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN). Since April 2022, elementary school students enrolled in preparatory classes—those immediately preceding class I—have a part of PM-POSHAN.

PM Poshan Plan 2024:

The “PM Poshan in Schools” program, formerly known as the Midday Meal program, was approved by the Union Cabinet and intends to serve hot, cooked meals to pre-primary pupils in government-run and government-aided schools throughout India.

Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, this decision was made at the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting. According to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur, the PM Poshan Shakti Nirman initiative will incorporate the current midday meal program along with several new additions. The Center plans to spend an additional Rs. 45,000 crore on foodgrains, meaning that the overall budget for the scheme will remain at Rs. 1,30,794.90 crores.

What is Udise Plus, or Udise+?

The Unified District Information System for Education Plus is referred to as UDISE+. It is an integrated education management information system to offers accurate and thorough data about Indian schooling. Under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, UDISE+ is overseen by the Department of School Education and Literacy.

How the Student Module for Udise Plus Works

All accredited schools in India, including public, private, and assisted schools, provide data to UDISE+. The data covers a range of topics, including enrollment, facilities, infrastructure, instructor information, student performance, and more. Planning, policy-making, monitoring, and evaluation of education at all levels depend on this data.

To enhance data administration, collecting, and analysis procedures in the education sector, UDISE+ supersedes the previous District Information System for Education (DISE) and adds additional features and functionalities. It has a major impact on improving the Indian educational system’s accountability, transparency, and effectiveness.

Udise Plus Student Module: What is it?

A part of India’s Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+), an integrated education management information system, is the UDISE+ Student Module. The purpose of the student module is to collect and handle extensive data about students who are enrolled in educational institutions around the nation. The following are the main attributes and capabilities of the UDISE+ Student Module:

  • Student Attendance: Data on daily attendance, absenteeism, and other pertinent information is recorded by the module. This information is useful for tracking attendance patterns and managing absence and dropout rates.
  • Academic Performance of Students: It records information about the academic performance of students, such as test scores, grades, marks earned, and other assessment-related data. This information is useful for evaluating student learning results and pinpointing areas in need of development.
  • Student Mobility and Transfers: This module keeps track of students’ movements between institutions, as well as their reasons for leaving and previous transfers. This data aids in the comprehension of patterns of student mobility and the resolution of problems about educational continuity.
  • Health and Welfare of Students: It might also provide tools for keeping track of health-related data about students, like medical histories, vaccination histories, and any specific requirements or disabilities. Initiatives about students’ health and well-being are supported by this data.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Using the student data that has gathered, the module facilitates the creation of reports and analyses. At different stages of the educational system, these reports can utilized for policy development, monitoring, and assessment.
