How to Apply for India Young Professional Visa Scheme?

After successfully selected in India Young Professionals Scheme ballot, applicants can apply for the India Young Professional Visa Scheme.

  1. Fill out the online application form for the visa and provide some supporting documents like passport, qualification certificate, bank statement, etc.
  2. Pay an application fee of £298 (approximately Rs. 32,400) (non-refundable) and a healthcare surcharge of £1,552 (approximately Rs. 1,68,651).
  3. Prove identity; depending on where applicant is from and what type of passport they have, they will either:
  • Have their fingerprints and photograph taken at a visa application centre.
  • Use the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app to scan their identity document.

After applying, applicants can ask to cancel their application. Fee is refundable only if UKVI has not started processing application.

If applicant has a child while they’re in the UK, they do not automatically become a British citizen. Applicant must apply online for their child’s dependant visa if they want to travel in and out of the UK with them.

Applicant will need to provide a full UK birth certificate for each child, showing names of both parents.

How does India Young Professional Visa Scheme Ballot System work?

1. Entering the ballot

Applicants can enter ballot if they’re an Indian citizen and eligible for India Young Professionals Scheme visa. Check eligibility before entering ballot.

Candidates will need to provide their:

  • name
  • date of birth
  • passport details
  • a scan or photo of your passport
  • phone number
  • email address

The successful entries are picked at random. They get results by email within 2 weeks of the ballot closing. There are 3,000 places available for the India Young Professionals Scheme visa in 2024. Most places were made available in February ballot. The remaining places are made available in the July ballot. Applicant can only submit one entry per person for each ballot. Any further attempts to enter will not be counted.

2. Successful entries

If successful in ballot, applicant are invited to apply for a visa. They’ll have 90 days from date of email to apply online, pay visa application fee, including immigration health surcharge and provide biometrics. If successful in ballot but choose not to apply for visa, applicants do not have to inform.

3. Unsuccessful entries

The results of the ballot are final. Applicants cannot appeal if they’re unsuccessful. They can enter future ballots if they’re unsuccessful.

How long it takes to get a final decision?

Once applied online, proved identity and provided documents, you’ll usually get a decision within 3 weeks.

Applicants get an intimation if their application will take longer, for example because:

  1. supporting documents need to verify.
  2. need to attend an interview
  3. of personal circumstances, for example if they have a criminal conviction
